That’s why grain-free ACANA PRAIRIE FEAST features a diversity of regional ingredients including free-run chicken, whole eggs, wild-caught Whitefish and Walleye—all delivered FRESH, never frozen and without preservatives. High-protein and low-carbohydrate, ACANA is loaded with premium meat ingredients (65%) to promote peak conditioning in cats of all breeds.

1. FRESHNESS AND VARIETY ARE CENTRAL TO THE NATURAL DIET

Although the natural diet of cats and dogs contains a VARIETY of meat proteins from small mammals, eggs, birds and fish, most commercial pet foods contain only one animal ingredient - typically only chicken or lamb.

Providing a wider variety of animal ingredients better matches the natural diet, providing our companion dogs and cats with a diversity of essential proteins and fats to match the natural diet.

That’s why every ACANA diet is made with a minimum of THREE FRESH MEATS—including free-run chicken, whole eggs and a variety of wild-caught fish—world-class ingredients that arrive at our factory FRESH EACH DAY.

From Dachshunds to Great Danes, all breeds of dog carry the same DNA patterns and share a single evolutionary origin—the gray wolf.

And just like their wild cousins, dogs and cats are carnivores—equipped with sharp teeth, a short digestive tract and a body that’s highly efficient at metabolizing animal proteins and fats – not carbohydrates.

By matching the ratio of protein and fat to the natural diet ACANA promotes peak health and conditioning. Much higher in meat and substantially higher in protein than typical commercial pet foods, ACANA diets are bursting with quality meat ingredients that provide a variety and balance of animal proteins and fats similar to what dogs and cats would encounter in nature

3. BECAUSE DOGS AND CATS DON’T REQUIRE CARBOHYDRATE

Dogs and cats are anatomically adapted for a diet high in animal proteins and fats with very few, if any, carbohydrates

That’s because carbohydrates are ‘empty calories’—simple sugars that provide no nutritional value to dogs and cats other than their limited and controversial energy potential.

Once injested carbohydrates convert rapidly to glucose which causes blood sugar to elevate and fluctuate. Carbohydrates easily convert to body fat and are linked to obesity as well as other health problems including insulin resistance and type II diabetes.

And while most pet foods contain 40-60% carbohydrate, ACANA diets contain 20%-30% carbohydrate—about half of other commercial pet foods.

4. A MINIMUM 20% OF FRUITS AND VEGETABLES RICH IN NATURALLY OCCURRING VITAMINS, MINERALS AND PHYTONUTRIENTS.

Instead of inappropriate high-glycemic grains such as white rice and corn, ACANA is formulated with a full 20% of fruits and vegetables from our region.
